If you are ever in doubt as to what to give any person as a gift, give them socks. Big or small, young or old they all will love them and appreciate them forever. There is something so warm and comforting about a hand knitted pair of socks and the yarn these days is quite machine washable so no fiddling about hand washing. My little grandchildren love their hand knitted socks and always remind me when their feet have grown which frankly is every two minutes. This pair of lovely knee highs is designed for ladies and will keep you warm in Winter and extremely stylish. The calf is shaped so they will stay up and I have added a coloured toe and heel for a bit of variety. For novice knitters I have included a series of photo’s so you can see the stages of knitting. Really the thing to remember is you are knitting in rounds for everything but the heel flap. This is worked backwards and forwards in rows and then everything gets back to knitting in the round again. Tension is very important as you want it to be good and firm otherwise your socks won’t stay up. It is worthwhile paying a bit extra for really good sock yarn as it will last longer and be lovely and soft to wear. So if you have never knitted socks before give this pair a go. They are basic and once you have got the hang of them you can add some stripes and give them your own personal touch.
